UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Three weeks from its conference championship meet, the members of the Felician men's cross-country team continue to battle for position. On Saturday, their internal placements shuffled once again as they finished seventh out of 11 teams at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational, hosted by Penn State University at the Penn State Blue/White Golf Course.
Senior Paul Chegwidden (Hamburg, NJ) and sophomore Brad Schepise (Milltown, NJ) continued to stake their claim as their team's No. 1 and 2 men. On a 5.2 mile course approximately 370 meters longer than most of Felician's regular-season races, Chegwidden crossed the finish line in 28 minutes, 42 seconds, good for 31st place out of 130 entrants, and Schepise was 40th in 29:08.
Freshman Jay Rodgers (Westmont, NJ) (50th, 29:17) was Felician's third man for the second time in three meets, and senior Alex Wright (Stockholm, NJ) (63rd, 29:36) finished behind Rodgers after beating him last week. Completing the scoring was senior Brian McDonnell (Kearny, NJ) (64th, 29:43), seven seconds behind Wright. McDonnell is a scorer for the first time in three meets.
The Golden Falcons were one of only three Division II teams at the race, finishing ahead of Indiana (Pa.) University and behind Lock Haven University. Columbia University won the meet with 26 points, edging the host Nittany Lions by nine. |
