UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Challenged with its longest race and stiffest competition of the season, the Felician women's cross-country team finished eighth out of 12 teams at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational, hosted by Penn State University on Saturday morning at the Penn State Blue/White Golf Course.
Felician was one of only three Division II schools attending the event, finishing behind Indiana (Pa.) University and ahead of Lock Haven University. For the fourth consecutive meet, junior Amanda Scibetta (Middletown, NJ) led the Golden Falcon delegation, completing the 6,000-meter course in 24 minutes, 20 seconds, to finish 43rd out of 126 competitors. The race was a kilometer longer than the usual regular-season distance.
Freshman Toni Fowler (Mount Holly, NJ) finshed 53rd overall, clocking a 24:41. Also scoring for the Golden Falcons were senior Melissa Barroqueiro (Carteret, NJ) (77th, 25:53), freshman Sarah Root (Aberdeen, NJ) (78th, 25:53), and senior Megan Williams (Nutley, NJ) (92nd, 26:44). Felician tied with Howard University for eighth place with 219 points, but won the "sixth-man tiebreaker" when Sophia Chick (Edison, NJ) finished six places ahead of Howard's sixth runner.
The host Nittany Lions, ranked No. 29 in Division I, won the meet with 25 points, 18 better than runner-up Columbia University. |
