RUTHERFORD, N.J. – New York Institute of Technology took a 2-0 lead in the first 28 minutes, keying its 3-1 non-conference women’s soccer victory over host Felician College on Monday night at Tryon Field.
NYIT (3-3) took the lead in the 20th minute when Diana Cotilletta (New Hyde Park, NY) sent a cross across the goal mouth to Katie Hicks (Valley Stream, NY), who knocked it just inside the post. The Bears’ Jennie Sandhal (Falkopin, Sweden) beat Felician goalkeeper Amanda Musarra (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ) high for the two-goal advantage at 27:36.
The Golden Falcons cut the deficit prior to halftime on a deflection by freshman Tiffany Bledsoe (Clementon, NJ). Both offenses remained active in the physical, intense match, with Musarra (13 saves) keeping Felician (2-4-1) within striking distance despite the Bears’ 23-14 shot advantage. But Hicks sealed the victory with a goal with 17:12 to play.
Jenna Ament (East Norwich, NY) had six saves for the Bears.
