OAKDALE, N.Y. -- Dowling College scored in the first minute of action and went on to a 3-0 non-conference victory over visiting Felician College on Wednesday afternoon. Dowling, ranked No. 7 in the latest Division II coaches poll, is the defending national champion.
The Golden Lions (4-1) jumped ahead on a goal from Patrick Cunningham (Oakdale, NY) 54 seconds into the match. Marcus Come's (Gotenburg, Sweden) one-timer in the 24th minute gave Dowling a 2-0 halftime lead, and its defense did not allow Felician many significant scoring opportunities thereafter.
The Golden Falcons (0-5-1) were outshot, 14-1, in the second half (23-5 for the day) and garnered only one corner kick opportunity in the game. Felician goalkeeper Paulo DosSantos (Toronto, Ontario) made 10 saves. Come finished with two goals and Thomas Vaaland (Stavanger, Norway) had two assists for Dowling. Keeper Nemanja Veljovic (Belgrade, Serbia) was credited with three saves in 85 minutes.
