BRONX, N.Y. -- The Felician women's cross-country team finished 16th out of 25 schools and the men's team placed 15th of 24 in the Fordham University Invitational held Saturday morning at Van Cortlandt Park.
The women's race broke from the starting line first, and led by junior Amanda Scibetta's (Middletown, NJ) 5,000-meter time of 21 minutes flat, Felician ended up third among the seven Division II schools in the team standings. Scibetta's time left her in 63rd place out of 233 female runners. The other Golden Falcon scorers were freshmen Sarah Root (Aberdeen, NJ) (121st, 22:23) and Toni Fowler (Mount Holly, NJ) (126th, 22:31), senior Melissa Barroqueiro (Carteret, NJ) (133rd, 22:44), and senior Megan Williams (Nutley, NJ) (163rd, 23:34).
Princeton University dominated the race, having runners finish in second through seventh place to easily win with 20 points. Stonehill College was the top Division II team, scoring 232 points for eighth place overall, and Felician ended with 478 points.
On the men's side, sophomore Brad Schepise (Milltown, NJ) led the Felician delegation with an 8,000-meter time of 29 minutes, two seconds. He finished 77th of 233 entrants, and joining him in the top half were teammates Alex Wright (Stockholm, NJ) (94th, 29:16) and Mike Burghoffer (Stockholm, NJ) (102nd, 29:31). Senior Brian McDonnell (Kearny, NJ) (141st, 30:52) and freshman Huan Tran (Belleville, NJ) (163rd, 31:34) rounded out the scoring. The Golden Falcons were fourth among six D-II institutions in attendance.
The University of Pennsylvania edged Princeton and the U.S. Naval Academy for the team title with 42 points, and Stonehill led all D-II schools, finishing fifth with 162. Felician scored 413 points. |
