Felician Athletics - 9/1/07 WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Lady Harriers Sixth In Opening Race

LINCROFT, N.J. -- The Felician women's cross country team finished sixth at the Monmouth University Kickoff on Saturday morning at Thompson Park. The race was the season opener for the Golden Falcons and most of their opponents.

Defending CACC Runner of the Year Amanda Scibetta (Middletown, NJ) was the frontrunner for Felician, as she completed the 4,000-meter (2.5 mile) course in 16 minutes, 1.9 seconds. Scibetta placed 15th out of 70 entrants. The race was 1K shorter than the usual regular-season distance.

Felician freshmen Toni Fowler (Mount Holly, NJ) (16:19.8) and Sarah Root (Aberdeen, NJ) (16:31.4) placed 25th and 28th, respectively, helping their team end up second out of three non-Division I schools. Also scoring for the Golden Falcons were senior Melissa Barroqueiro (Carteret, NJ) (36th, 16:53.2), and freshman Kaitlyn Minehan (Ocean City, NJ) (46th, 17:19.4).

The University at Albany edged the host Hawks, 39-44, for the team title. Felician finished 30 points behind CACC foe and fifth-place Georgian Court University.
