CALISE BROOKVILLE, N.Y. -- The Felician College bullpen allowed one run on three hits over four innings in its 6-5 non-conference baseball victory over host Long Island University-C.W. Post on Thursday afternoon. The nine-inning game lasted two hours, 13 minutes, Felician's shortest of the season.
C.W. Post (22-14), ranked seventh in the most recent regional writers' poll, recovered from deficits of 4-0 and 5-1 to tie the game at 5-5 after six innings. In the top of the seventh, Felician's Anthony Spina (Toms River, NJ) led off with a single, reached second when a sacrifice bunt was mishandled, advanced to third on a bunt single and scored on Ray Rose's (Piscataway, NJ) sacrifice fly.
From there, the Golden Falcons (18-21) received perfect innings of relief from Kevin Ernst (Manalapan, NJ) in the seventh and John Brady (Bricktown, NJ) in the eighth. Jeff Calabrese (Freehold, NJ) worked around a one-out single in the ninth to record his third save. Freshman left-hander John Calise (Staten Island, NY), despite allowing the tying run in the sixth on an RBI double by Chris Yandoli (Merrick, NY), picked up his first career victory.
Felician's Frank Quintana (Miami, FL) tied his own school record with his 11th homerun of the season, a solo shot in the fifth. He became the first player in program history with 30 career homers. Spina finished 2 for 3, and Kenny Vanderhee (Aventura, FL) was 2 for 5 with a double. Yandoli (2 RBI) and Frank Carotta (Glen Cove, NY) were each 3 for 4 for C.W. Post, which saw a seven-game winning streak snapped.
