CALDWELL, N.J. -- The Felician College softball team lost both games of its CACC softball doubleheader with host Caldwell College on Wednesday afternoon, 3-2 and 6-0, at Caldwell Field, with Game 1 lasting 10 innings. Caldwell is ranked No. 12 in the most recent national Division II coaches' poll.

In the opener, Felician (9-12, 3-9), outhit the Cougars, 9-5, but left 10 runners on base. Both teams scored single runs in the fifth inning, but starting pitchers Nicole Broecker (Staten Island, NY) for Felician and Caldwell's Kristen dela Campa (Whitman, MA) otherwise kept the opposition off the scoreboard until extra innings. The Golden Falcons broke through in the top of the eighth, when Broecker's one out single scored Nicole Degenhardt (Secaucus, NJ), who had doubled. The Cougars, however, tied the game with two outs in their half of the eighth on an outfield error.

Caldwell reliever Cecelia Goforth (Houston, TX) twice kept Felician off the scoreboard despite a runner being placed on second base under international tiebreaker rules. In the bottom of the tenth, placed runner Alicia Langone (Kendall Park, NJ) scored the winning run when the Golden Falcons' attempt to retire her at third base was thrown out of play on a bunt attempt. Broecker (4-3) struck out seven and walked none in nine-plus innings.

Goforth (6-1), who picked up the win in both games, combined with Nicole Webb (Toms River, NJ) on an eight-hit shutout in the nightcap. Caldwell (22-8, 12-4) scored two unearned runs in the first inning, and later received homeruns from Carrie Flasphaler (Horseheads, NY) and Stacy Falkowski (Horseheads, NY). Meredith Rainer (Wantage, NJ) had two doubles for Felician.

Degenhardt went 3 for 8 with an RBI for the afternoon.
