RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College’s Marcos Torres of Miami, Fla., has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week, the CACC announced today. He is the third Felician player to win that award this season.
Torres, a freshman catcher, went 4 for 12 with a homerun and four runs batted in during a 2-2 week for the Golden Falcons. In two starts behind the plate, he handled 17 errorless chances and threw out 2 of 6 would-be base-stealers. He hit his first collegiate homerun in an Apr. 3 home loss to Caldwell College, and went 3 for 6 with two RBI in Saturday’s Game 1 victory at Post University.
On the season, Torres has played in 23 games, starting 15, for the 13-17 Golden Falcons. He is hitting .261 with three doubles, a homerun, and eight RBI, and has thrown out 22 percent of attempted base-stealers. Torres is a 2006 graduate of South Miami High. Teammate Chris Flynn (Keyport, NJ/Keyport) was selected for the CACC Weekly Honor Roll.
Torres joins Jeff Calabrese (Freehold, NJ/Christian Brothers), who was honored on March 12, and last week’s winner, Richard Melendez (Miami, FL/South Miami), as CACC Rookies of the Week for Felician in 2007. More information is available here.
