SCHOER LYNDHURST, N.J. – Sophomore Dave Schoer (Manalapan, NJ) hit a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 11th inning to end Felician College’s 8-7 non-conference baseball victory over visiting Molloy College on Thursday afternoon at a chilly Breslin Field.
Batting with two outs and no one on base, Schoer blasted a 2-and-0 offering from Michael Maddi (Merrick, NY) (1-2), the sixth Molloy pitcher of the game, well over the left field fence. His second homerun of the year made a winner of Anthony Spina (Toms River, NJ) (3-0), who had stranded the potential go-ahead run on third base with one out in the top of the inning.
Molloy (12-13) trailed, 4-0, after five innings, and still faced a 5-4 deficit heading into the top of the ninth. A solo homer by Ryan Heenan (Farmingdale, NY) tied the game, and the Lions would rally for two more runs later in the inning. The Golden Falcons forced extra innings on Chris Flynn’s (Keyport, NJ) two-run double in the bottom of the ninth.
Felician starting pitcher Scott VanEs (Secaucus, NJ) struck out 10 batters in 8 1/3 innings, and reliever John Calise (Staten Island, NY) escaped a bases-loaded, none-out jam in the 10th. Felician (12-16) used 20 players in the game. Flynn finished 3 for 4 with two doubles before being lifted for a pinch runner in the ninth, and Richard Melendez (Miami, FL) also had three hits.
David Mercado (East Elmhurst, NY) was 2 for 5 with a two-run homer for the Lions. |
