YOUNG PHILADELPHIA -- The Felician golf team earned the first dual-match victory in program history during a quadrangular meet hosted by Holy Family University at a soggy Torresdale Frankford Golf Club on Wednesday afternoon. The Golden Falcons defeated Chestnut Hill College, 390-396, while losing to the host Tigers, 311-390, and Nyack College, 323-390.
Keying the victory for Felician were season-low rounds from freshmen Rob Young (Glendale, NY/Cathedral Prep) and Joseph Peters (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional), who spent much of the afternoon chasing Peters's single-round school record. Young came away with a record 83, eight strokes better than his previous low college round, and two lower than the previous school standard Peters turned in last Saturday. Peters, meanwhile, carded his second 85 of the season.
Senior Ryan Fogarty (Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield) shot 102, and classmate Michael Furino (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) figured in the team scoring for the first time this season, finishing with a 120.
Felician (1-3), a second-year program, went 0-7 in dual matches last year and dropped its only previous dual of the 2006-07 season to Philadelphia University back on Nov. 1.
Holy Family's Jon Radick was Wednesday's medalist with an even-par 70.
