NOVAL FLUSHING, N.Y. – Felician College survived a seven-run ninth-inning by host Queens (N.Y.) College to earn a 12-10 non-conference baseball victory on Thursday afternoon.
Felician (10-12), which scored in six different innings, appeared to take control by scoring five times in the top of the eighth inning to extend a four-run lead to 12-3. Vinnie DiBenedetti (Forked River, NJ) led off the inning with a homerun to right field, and Frank Quintana (Miami, FL) and Dave Schoer (Manalapan, NJ) had run-scoring singles. The Golden Falcons outhit Queens, 22-7, on the afternoon.
The Knights, however, took advantage of four Felician errors to send 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, and following Sean Sciretta’s (Rosedale, NY) two-out RBI double, brought the tying run to the plate. Jeff Calabrese (Freehold, NJ), the fifth Felician pitcher of the day, then induced a grounder to shortstop to end the game. John Brady (Bricktown, NJ) (2-0) earned the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief of starter Kevin Ernst (Manalapan, NJ), who struck out eight batters and yielded one hit in 4 2/3 innings.
Quintana was 3 for 5 with a homer and three RBI and Jordan Noval (Manalapan, NJ) was 3 for 3 plus a walk for the Golden Falcons. Ryan Iannelli (Clarksboro, NJ) also had three hits. Michael Hennessy (West Babylon, NY) and Thomas Maser (Ozone Park, NY) were 2 for 5 for the Knights (2-9).
