RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College director of athletics and interim women’s basketball coach Ben DiNallo Jr. of River Edge has been named the permanent head coach of that program, vice president of student services and Rutherford campus administrator Susan M. Chalfin announced today.
DiNallo, 39, coached the Golden Falcons from 1998 to 2005, amassing a seven-year won-lost record of 87-111. His 1998-99 squad went 19-12, setting a school record for victories that still stands. He also coached the program’s only All-American in Tysell Bozeman, who earned NAIA Honorable Mention honors in 2001-02.
DiNallo, who was named director of athletics in February 2003 after 4 ˝ years as an assistant athletics director, coached the last 10 games of the 2006-07 season on an interim basis. He resigned as basketball coach in 2005 to focus on his administrative duties. Since then, Felician has added three full-time positions in the athletics department.
“I’m very excited to be the head women’s basketball coach again,” DiNallo said. “I have missed the day-to-day involvement with basketball student-athletes and the excitement of competition a great deal. Being given the chance to return to coaching during this season showed me how much I did miss it. I am grateful to our administration for its support of my return to coaching. I feel that the recent restructuring of the athletic department will allow me to properly serve in both roles.”
DiNallo was also the first women’s soccer coach in school history, posting a .560 winning percentage over five seasons and winning the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular-season title in 2001. He is currently Felician’s head golf coach.
