YAPHANK, N.Y. -- Sophomore right-hander William Senna (Wallingford, CT/Sheehan) allowed six hits over eight innings and classmate Vinnie DeBenedetti (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township) hit two homeruns as Felician College defeated host Dowling College, 8-5, in non-conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon at the Baseball Heaven Complex.

Felician (9-11), led 2-1, heading into the top of the sixth inning, when it loaded the bases with no one out on a double, walk, and single. Richard Melendez (Miami, FL/South Miami) hit a sacrifice fly to center field, and Thomas DiPietro (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) followed with a three-run homer down the left field line.

Senna (1-0) carried the 6-1 lead into the eighth, when he yielded a no-out grand slam to Dowling's Ryan Grabowski (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip). He left in position for the victory by finishing the inning with a strikeout, walk, and double-play grounder. Senna struck out seven batters and walked four, yielding four earned runs.

DiBenedetti gave the Golden Falcons a cushion by lining a two-run homerun with one-out in the top of the ninth. He had also homered leading off the game. Jeff Calabrese (Freehold, NJ/CBA) worked a perfect ninth inning for his first career save.

Golden Lion starter Mike Geniale (Wantagh, NY) (0-3) allowed six runs on seven hits in six innings. Casey Rafferty (Averill Park, NY) went 2 for 4 and scored twice.
