MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Junior left-hander John Brady (Bricktown, NJ) won his first start of the season as Felician College defeated Mercy College, 10-7, on Sunday morning in non-conference baseball action at Barry University’s Feinbloom Field. Later on Sunday, Felician lost to Barry, 10-0, in the final game of its Spring Break trip to Florida.

Against Mercy, a two-run double by Kenny Vanderhee (Aventura, FL) highlighted a five-run top of the fourth inning which gave Felician a 6-0 lead. Brady exited after five innings leading, 6-2, having allowed no earned runs on two hits. The Flyers (0-6) scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull to within 8-5, but Felician’s Thomas DiPietro (Staten Island, NY) hit a two-run homerun in the top of the ninth. Mercy brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the frame before being retired.

Frank Quintana (Miami, FL) was 3 for 4 with a double and two runs batted in and Jordan Noval (Manalapan, NJ) had a pair of doubles for the Golden Falcons. Mercy catcher Roberto Martinez (Yonkers, NY) was 4 for 5 with three RBI.

Barry starter Jayson Brown (Tamarac, FL) struck out 11 Golden Falcon batters in seven shutout innings in the second game of the day, allowing seven hits, and Brian Mastin (North Point, FL) tossed two hitless innings of relief. The Buccanneers (13-10) took control with four runs in the first inning and two more in the fourth off of Felician starter Albie Sanguiliano (Flemington, NJ) (0-1). Andrew Frezza (Taquesta, FL) was 3 for 5 with a homer and four RBI and Orestes Gonzalez (Port St. Lucie, FL) went 3 for 3 to pace the Barry offense. Quintana had three more hits for Felician (8-11) to finish 6 for 8 on the day.
