FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- The Felician College baseball team lost two non-conference games on Sunday during its spring break trip, falling to the University of New Haven, 9-1, in the morning, and 17-7 to the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown in the evening at the Lawnwood Complex.

In Felician's first outing of the day, New Haven starting pitcher Matt Sommo scattered seven hits over eight innings, allowing a run in the eighth with his team already ahead 8-0. Sommo struck out eight batters and walked three. The Chargers jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings, including three unearned runs. Al Jardine (Neptune, NJ) (0-2) pitched 6 2/3 innings for the Golden Falcons, yielding eight runs (five earned) on nine hits.

Michael Moras homered and scored three times to lead New Haven. Frank Quintana (Miami, FL) had a double and a triple and scored Felician's run.

Pitt-Johnstown also took control early, leading 12-2 after three innings of play. The Mountain Cats, who were playing their season opener, had 15 base hits and Felician pitching allowed 15 more baserunners via walk or hit batsman. Chris Turka (5 runs) and Adam Plummer each went 4 for 6 and Paul Pentz was 1 for 2 with 5 RBI.

UPJ starter Chuck Boring struck out 10 and walked four in five innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Mountain Cat pitching combined for 18 strikeouts. Richard Melendez (Miami, FL) had a two-run single and Mike Urcuioli (Marlboro, NJ) went 2 for 2 off the bench for Felician (6-5).
