QUINTANA MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Senior first-baseman Frank Quintana’s (Miami, FL) third homerun of the day led the Felician College baseball team to a come-from-behind 11-10 victory over Queens (N.Y.) College on Saturday afternoon, and a sweep of two non-conference games during the Northeast Challenge at the Ripken Experience Complex. On Saturday morning, the Golden Falcons defeated Molloy College, 13-5.
In Felician’s late game, it trailed, 9-8, with two on and one out in the bottom of the eighth inning before Quintana drove the first offering from Queens reliever Vincent Basilicata (0-1) over the left-centerfield fence for the fourth lead change of the game. Quintana’s blast, his second of the game, was estimated at 450 feet. Kevin Barrett (Howell, NJ) worked around a solo homer by the Knights’ Maurice Santana (Queens, NY) to retire the side in the ninth and earn the victory.
Quintana finished 3 for 5 with three runs scored and four runs batted in, and Richard Melendez (Miami, FL) was also 3 for 4 for Felician (4-2). Santana homered twice and drove in five runs for Queens.
The Golden Falcons scored eight first inning runs to take control of their morning victory over Molloy (0-2). Vinnie DiBenedetti (Forked River, NJ) was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, stole second base, and scored on a double by Kenny Vanderhee (Aventura, FL). Quintana followed with a homer to left-center for a quick 3-0 lead. Felician then took advantage of two Lion errors to score five unearned runs in the frame.
Felician starter Nick Riker (Highlands, NJ) (1-0) was the beneficiary of the offense, scattering 13 hits over seven innings of work. Riker yielded four runs (three earned), did not walk a batter, and induced four double-play grounders. Quintana was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI, and Vanderhee had two hits, scored twice and drove in three runs. Andrew Scavuzzo (Kings Park, NY) hit a solo homer for Molloy.
