BROWN NYACK, N.Y. -- The Felician women's basketball team earned its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory and its first road win of the season, 72-65, over Nyack College on Thursday evening at Bowman Gymnasium.
Laurin Brown (Bayville, NJ) gave Felician (2-26, 1-19) the lead it would never relinquish, making a three-point field goal to put her team up, 48-47 with nine minutes, 38 seconds, to play in the game. The shot began a 16-4 Golden Falcon run over a span of 3:38, in which Brown scored 12 points, giving Felician its biggest edge of the night. Still trailing by 10 late a few minutes later, Nyack scored seven consecutive points to pull within 64-61 at the 1:11 mark, but the Golden Falcons were able to hold off the Warriors by making 8 of 10 free throws down the stretch.
Nyack (7-15, 5-14) erased an early 10-3 deficit to take a 32-29 halftime lead. But Felician scored the first six points of the second half, and the game remained within a two-possession margin until the Golden Falcons' decisive run. The Warriors were held to 31-percent shooting for the second half and 37 percent for the game.
Dee Dee Smith (Monticello, NY) led all scorers with 22 points, matching her season high, and added nine rebounds for Felician. Terry Sues (Kenilworth, NJ) had a career-high 17 points, and Brown scored all 17 of her points after halftime. Kesly McIntosh led Nyack with 15 points off the bench. |
