RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician College women’s basketball team chopped an 18-point second half deficit to seven before bowing to visiting Wilmington (Del.) College, 86-62, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action Tuesday evening at Job Gymnasium.
Wilmington (7-4, 4-2) used a 16-3 run in the middle of the first half to turn a one-point deficit into a 26-14 lead, and took a 40-26 edge into halftime. Still trailing 54-36 with 12:52 remaining, Felician embarked on a 15-4 spurt, including seven points from Crystal Ferrer (Bronx, NY/Redemption Christian), to pull within seven. But the Wildcats would outscore the Golden Falcons, 28-11, over the game’s final 7:46.
Junior Sherrelle Holmes (Philadelphia, PA/Bodine) helped keep Wilmington on top by scoring 21 second half points. She finished with 23 points and 15 assists, the highest assist total for the Wildcats in their four years as an NCAA member. Amelia Simmons (Wilmington, DE/Concord) had 23 points and 13 rebounds and Nordia Henry (Philadelphia, PA/Cardinal Dougherty) added 17 points and 11 boards. Wilmington owned a 49-26 rebounding advantage.
