RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Georgian Court University picked up its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory of the season, defeating host Felician College, 68-65, in women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.
GCU, which never trailed, took its largest lead of the day at 61-48 with six minutes, two seconds, to play, but then was held without a field goal for the rest of the game. Felician senior Laurin Brown (Bayville, NY/Central Regional) had eight points in a 12-2 run that brought her team to within 64-62 with 23 seconds to play, but the Lions’ Stephanie Longdo (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional) made four consecutive free throws on her team’s final two possessions to seal the game.
Longdo recorded 15 points and six assists to top Georgian Court (2-7, 1-4). Classmate Melinda Hunold (North Kingstown, RI/North Kingstown) had 15 points and six rebounds. Brown led all scorers with a season-high 17 points. Both teams made at least half of their three-point field goal attempts, with Brown going 5 for 9. Crystal Ferrer (Bronx, NY/Redemption Christian) added 13 points for the Golden Falcons (1-11, 0-6).
