Amanda Scibetta
WILMINGTON, Del. – Felician College sophomore Amanda Scibetta (Middletown, NJ/Middletown North) won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women’s cross-country championship race on Saturday morning at Carousel Park. As a result, Scibetta was named 2006 CACC Women’s Runner of the Year.

Scibetta, an all-conference runner in 2005, defeated 77 other entrants by completing the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) course in 21 minutes, 8.70 seconds. She finished 8.30 seconds ahead of runner-up Joy Aifuwa of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Joining Scibetta on the all-CACC team was junior Melissa Barroqueiro (Carteret, NJ/Carteret), who finished 13th with a time of 22:01.92.

Scibetta and Barroqueiro led the Golden Falcons to a second-place finish out of 12 schools in the team standings. Felician ended the day with 85 points, 24 behind champion Georgian Court University and two better than third-place Philadelphia University. Freshman Sophia Chick (Edison, NJ/Edison) ran 17th with a time of 22:09.73, followed by junior Jacqui Carroll (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) (26th, 23:17.97), and sophomore Jo Milling (Pymble, Australia) (28th, 23:20.25).

Also running, and able to raise the scores of those finishing behind them, were junior Megan Williams (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) (29th, 23:26.89) and senior Terry Sues (Kenilworth, NJ/Kenilworth) (70th, 30:40.60).

Scibetta is the second Felician female to win CACC Runner of the Year honors, joining Shakira Williams in 2003. Two Golden Falcon men have also accomplished the feat.
