RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Duane Eason of Newark has been named an assistant men's basketball coach at Felician College, head coach Del Harrison announced today. It is Eason's first collegiate coaching position.

Eason has spent six seasons as a high school head coach in northern New Jersey, including the last four at Belleville High. He was the coach of Bergen County Technical School from 2000 to 2002.

Eason was an All-State basketball and baseball player at Hackensack High, graduating in 1993. In his senior season, the Comets won the Group IV North Section I state championship in basketball. He was drafted out of high school by Major League Baseball's Houston Astros, but instead accepted a baseball scholarship to Troy State University.

Eason earned a bachelor's degree in English literature from New Jersey City University in 1997. He has been a language arts teacher in the Newark public school system since 2002. He joins Felician English professor Russ Wiebe on Harrison's staff.
