WATERBURY, Conn. – The Felician College men’s basketball team, ranked tenth regionally, could not complete a comeback from a 16-point second-half deficit on Thursday night, losing, 89-85 to host Post University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division action at the Drubner Center. Felician surrendered a season-high opponent point total.
Junior Devon Young (Monmouth Junction, NJ) led all scorers with 25 points (22 in the second half) and added eight rebounds and five assists for Felician (13-5, 6-3 CACC), which cut its deficit to four with seven minutes, 54 seconds remaining, but never got closer. Sophomore Antoine Obery (Roselle, NJ) earned his seventh double-double of the season with 15 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. Felician also received 16 points from Suquan Gary (Paterson, NJ) and 14 from Andrew August (Bridgewater, NJ).
Post (7-13, 3-7) used three consecutive three-point field goals to end the first half on a 9-2 run and take a 39-28 lead into the locker room. The Eagles then scored the first five points of a see-saw period two for their largest lead of the night. Felician followed with an 11-0 run to cut its deficit to 46-41 at the 16:14 mark.
Post pushed their advantage back up to 13, but helped by Young, who scored 14 consecutive Golden Falcon points in one stretch, the visitors got back to within 63-59. But for the next seven minutes, the teams traded either baskets or empty possessions, and the Eagle lead stayed between four and six points. Post made 6 of 8 foul shots in the final minute to secure the victory. Jon Lucky (Waterbury, CT) led five Eagle scorers in double figures with 22 points, six rebounds and five assists, and teammate Spencer Smith (White Plains, NY) posted 17 points, eight boards and six helpers.
