PHILADELPHIA – Felician College junior Sarah Root (Aberdeen, NJ/Old Bridge) attained all-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference status at the 10th CACC Women’s Cross-Country Championship, co-hosted by the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and Philadelphia University on Saturday morning at Belmont Plateau inside Fairmount Park. Felician finished sixth in the team standings.

By CACC rules, the first 15 finishers in the race were automatically named all-conference. Amid a steady rain, Root completed the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) course in 22 minutes, two seconds, good for 14th place out of 87 competitors. It was her third all-conference performance in as many years.

Root led Felician to the sixth-place finish among 14 participating schools. The Golden Falcons ended the day with 140 points, 109 more than champion Philadelphia University. Sophomore Leslie Feola (Oak Ridge, NJ/DePaul Catholic) ran 18th in 22:14.

Completing the Felician scoring were senior Sophia Chick (Edison, NJ/Edison) (31st, 23:18), freshman Jacqueline Rivera (Haskell, NJ/Lakeland Regional) (33rd, 23:42), and freshman Alyssa Philhower (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) (44th, 23:23). Also running, and able to raise the scores of those finishing behind her, was junior Kaitlyn Minehan (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) (47th, 24:38).

Senior Danielle Burcham of Wilmington (Del.) University earned her second consecutive CACC Runner of the Year award after winning the race in 19:52. Philadelphia won its second straight CACC championship.
