ZUDONYI TORRES RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College junior Marcos Torres (Miami, FL/South Miami) and sophomore Mickey Zudonyi (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) have been named to the 2009 Daktronics NCAA Division II Baseball All-East Region Second Team, according to balloting released today. All sports information directors in the region were eligible to vote.
Today marks the first time since 2002, and the first time as an NCAA program, that the Golden Falcons put more than one player on an all-region team. Torres and Zudonyi are the fourth and fifth players at Felician to be named all-region since Felician joined the NCAA in 2003. Both players are first-time selections.
Torres, a two-time first-team all-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference honoree at catcher, had only one passed ball in 37 starts behind the plate in 2009. In 48 overall games, he batted .335 with 14 doubles, one triple, four home runs, 27 runs scored, and 36 runs batted in. He is tied for fourth in the CACC in hits (60) and tied for third in doubles.
Zudonyi, a 5-foot-9 second-baseman, hit .307 with 42 runs scored and 27 RBI in 47 games as the Golden Falcons’ leadoff man. He had 18 extra-base hits, including three homers, and is tied for fifth in the CACC with 20 stolen bases. He was also a first-team all-conference honoree.
The Division II East Region consists of the CACC, East Coast Conference, and Northeast-10 Conference, plus one independent. In total, 33 teams are encompassed.
Felician completed the 2009 season with a 24-24 won-lost record. The Golden Falcons tied for fifth place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a 14-13 league mark. |
