MIDDLETOWN, Del. -- The Felician College golf team finished in eighth place at the 2009 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship, hosted by Wilmington (Del.) University on Tuesday at Frog Hollow Golf Club. It was the highest finish at the conference tournament for the Golden Falcons in the four-year history of the team.
Junior Joe Peters (Barnegat, NJ) was the high individual for Felician, tying for 15th place with a 36-hole total of 153 (78-75) on the 6,145, par-71 course. Sophomore Joe Leardo (Belleville, NJ) carded a 78-77-155 and tied for 24th. Sophomore Jason Smith (Gibbstown, NJ) ended up 40th out of 52 entrants with 86-90-176, followed by junior Rob Young (Glendale, NY) (T-42nd, 94-88-182), and freshman Pat Raines (Rutherford, NJ) (51st, 94-109-203).
Due to rain on Monday, all 36 holes of the season-ending event were played on Tuesday. Felician's team scores were 336 for the first 18 holes and 330 for the second round, for a 98-over-par total of 666. The 330 set a team school record for the conference tournament and was five strokes off of the overall Felician mark. The Golden Falcons finished ahead of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (691), Chestnut Hill College (728), and an incomplete Dominican (N.Y.) College team.
Post University won their fourth consecutive title with an even-par 568. Post sophomore David McGregor shot 137 to win the invididual championship for the second year in a row.
