Felician Athletics - 2/24/09 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Season Ends With 65-62 Loss At Post

WATERBURY, Conn. -- The 2008-09 season came to and end for the Felician College women's basketball team with a 65-62 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division loss to host Post University on Tuesday evening at the Drubner Center.

Felician (5-22, 3-14) had recovered from a seven-point deficit with just under seven minutes left in regulation to tie the game, 62-62, on a Destiny Thompson (Paterson, NJ) lay-up at 0:40. But after Post had used up most of the shot clock, Eagle sophomore Mallorie Michalak (Meriden, CT) made two free throws, stole a pass on the other end of the floor, was fouled with just over one second remaining, and made 1 of 2 shots. All the Golden Falcons could muster as the buzzer sounded was a heave from midcourt by Janelle Biamonte (Secaucus, NJ).

Biamonte picked up her seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Thompson topped Felician with 16 points and four steals, and senior Amanda Bartee (Jersey City, NJ) (4-7 FG, 6-6 FT) completed her final collegiate game with 14 points and nine rebounds. Stephanie Goss went 10 for 10 from the floor for Post (4-23, 1-16) and ended up with 25 points and nine rebounds, and Michalak recorded 15 points and five steals.

The Golden Falcons fell behind, 23-6, in the game's first 10 minutes, but scored the last six points of the first half to trail, 31-23 at halftime. The second period saw several shifts in momentum. Felician used a 10-0 run to erase what was a once a 13-point deficit for a 47-46 edge at the 8:54 mark, only to see the Eagles score the next eight points.

Felician finishes with a two-win improvement over 2007-08.
