Felician Athletics - 2/21/09 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Women Earn Senior Day Victory Over USP, 66-63

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Freshman guard Destiny Thompson (Paterson, NJ/PCTI) came off the bench to score a season-high 20 points as the Felician College women’s basketball team defeated visiting University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, 66-63, on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.

Felician (5-21, 3-13) offset a 46-24 rebounding disadvantage with efficient offensive play. The Golden Falcons shot a season-high 45 percent from the floor and committed a season-low 11 turnovers. Janelle Biamonte (Secaucus, NJ/Marist) joined four Felician double-figure scorers with 13 points.

The Golden Falcons recovered from early deficits of 10-2 and 20-10 for a 29-29 halftime tie. With USP ahead, 46-41, and 10:41 remaining in regulation, Felician embarked on a game-changing 16-1 run. A three-point field-goal by Suzanne Albert (Montreal, Quebec/Mont-Royal) (season-high 11 points) at the 8:46 mark gave the Golden Falcons the lead for good, and a Jessica Ford (Jersey City, NJ/St. Anthony) lay-up made it 57-47 with 4:08 to play. The Devils scored the next six points, and pulled to within 64-61 at 0:20.0, but a pair of Thompson free throws secured the victory.

Kaitlyn DuRoss (Sea Isle City, NJ/Ocean City) topped USP (14-12, 11-6) with 18 points. Erin Chesnavich (Pittston, PA/Bishop O’Reilly) scored 10 points and 13 rebounds, and Allison Weiss (Springfield, PA/Springfield) added eight points, 15 rebounds and four assists for the Devils. Felician’s Krystal Dixon (Somerset, NJ/New Brunswick Tech) (5-7 FG) scored 12 points.

Felician seniors Albert, Amanda Bartee (Jersey City, NJ/St. Mary), Phylicia Daniels (Brooklyn, NY/Canarsie), Dixon, Kimberly Dunay (White Plains, MD/McDonough), and Crystal Reed (Paterson, NJ/John F. Kennedy) were honored in pre-game Senior Day ceremonies.
