RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College freshman James Vander Wiele of Pequannock has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men’s Cross-Country Rookie of the Week, the CACC announced today. It marks Vander Wiele’s fourth such honor of the season.
In the final weekly awards of 2008, Vander Wiele was honored after being the highest rookie finisher from the CACC at the NCAA East Regional Championship. On Sunday at Franklin Park in Boston, he turned in a time of 32 minutes, 47 seconds, for 10,000 meters in his first collegiate race at that distance. Vander Wiele finished 22nd of 167 competitors, including first of Felician’s pack of seven, in helping the Golden Falcons to a school-record eighth place regional placement.
Vander Wiele was named the CACC Runner of the Year and Rookie of the Year after finishing first in the league meet on Oct. 25. He is a 2008 graduate of Pequannock Township High. |
