BOSTON -- The Felician College men's cross-country team set a school record for team placement at the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship on Sunday, finishing eighth out of 31 schools at this year's event hosted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell at Franklin Park.

Felician, ranked ninth in the region by the USTFCCCA entering the meet, had never before finished in the top 10. The five-time defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion was the top CACC school in attendance, scoring 26 fewer points than 10th-place Philadelphia University.

CACC Runner of the Year James Vander Wiele (Pequannock, NJ) led the Golden Falcon contingent with a 10,000-meter time of 32 minutes, 47 seconds. The freshman came in 22nd place out of 167 entrants, and fell 29.2 seconds shy of all-region status.

Sophomore Jay Rodgers (Westmont, NJ) was 39th overall in 33:53, and Alex Wright (Stockholm, NJ), the team's only senior, turned in a 34:26 to finish 52nd. Completing the Felician scoring were junior Brad Schepise (Milltown, NJ) (55th, 34:32) and sophomore Chris Harvey (75th, 35:07).

Felician was competing in a realigned East Region which is comprised of the CACC, Northeast-10 Conference, and East Coast Conference. In the past, the CACC ran against the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at the regional meet.

The host River Hawks won the championship with 43 points, and runner-up Stonehill College (54) also qualified for the NCAA national D-II championship. Senior Ruben Sanca of UMass Lowell was the individual winner (30:36).
