Sarah Root earned her second All-CACC honor on Oct. 25 PHILADELPHIA – Felician College sophomore Sarah Root (Aberdeen, NJ/Old Bridge) attained all-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference status at the ninth CACC Women’s Cross-Country Championship, co-hosted by the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and Philadelphia University on Saturday afternoon at Belmont Plateau inside Fairmount Park. Felician finished third in the team standings.
By CACC rules, the first 15 finishers in the race were automatically named all-conference. Amid a steady rain, Root completed the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) course in 20 minutes, 45 seconds, good for seventh place out of 80 competitors. It was her second all-conference performance in as many years.
“Sarah worked hard all summer, trained hard all season, and saw the results today,” said Felician head coach John Brennan. “She has been our top runner all season long and deserves this honor.”
Root led Felician to the third-place finish among 12 participating schools, ending a string of three straight second-places. The Golden Falcons ended the day with 90 points, 43 behind champion Philadelphia University and 29 back of runner-up Georgian Court University. Freshman Meghan Corless (Middletown, NJ/Mater Dei) ran 17th in 21:27, just ahead of junior Sophia Chick (Edison, NJ/Edison), who was 18th in 21:29.
Completing the Felician scoring were freshman Leslie Feola (Oak Ridge, NJ/DePaul Catholic) (23rd, 21:55) and senior Amanda Scibetta (Middletown, NJ/Middletown North) (29th, 22:19). Also running, and able to raise the scores of those finishing behind her, was sophomore Kaitlyn Minehan (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) (37th, 23:22).
Junior Danielle Burcham of Wilmington (Del.) University was named CACC Runner of the Year after winning the race in 19:38. Philadelphia won its first CACC championship.
