CORLESS CANIDO RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College freshman Carlos Canido of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week, the CACC announced today. Additionally, the conference selected Felician freshman Meghan Corless of Middletown as Women’s Cross-Country Rookie of the Week.
Canido, a 6-foot-1, 158-pound midfielder, recorded his first career hat trick last Thursday, scoring all of his team’s goals in Felician’s 4-3 loss to Goldey-Beacom College during an 0-2 week. He leads the Golden Falcons with seven goals on the year. Felician is 3-8 heading into Wednesday night’s non-league home game against Molloy College.
Canido, who graduated from the Tahuichi Soccer Academy before attending St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark as a postgraduate, earned his second Rookie of the Week honor this season.
Corless posted a season-best 5,000-meter time of 20 minutes, 32 seconds, at the Cabrini College Invitational on Saturday. She finished eighth overall out of 149 competitors, second among Felician runners, and first, by 0.27 seconds, among freshmen from the CACC. Her result helped the Golden Falcons place third in the team standings out of 17 schools. The race was Felician’s last meet before the Oct. 25 CACC Championships. Corless is a 2008 graduate of Mater Dei High.
More information will be available later in the week at www.caccathletics.org. Felician has earned six CACC Rookie of the Week awards in the Fall 2008 athletic season. |
