PHILADELPHIA -- Felician College, ranked No. 7 in the Division II East Region, finished second of 16 teams and four of its seven runners produced season-best times during the men's race at the Cabrini College Cross-Country Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Fairmount Park's Belmont Plateau.
Felician's top five all ended up among the event's first 21 runners and had a spread of just 54 seconds. Freshman James Vander Wiele (Pequannock, NJ/Pequannock Township) was the team frontrunner for the fourth consecutive week, producing an 8,000-meter time of 26:44. He finished sixth out of 172 entrants. Classmate John Wambui (Kenya) shaved 43 seconds off his personal best, crossing the line 15th in 27:19.
The next three Golden Falcons finished within four seconds of each other. Sophomore Jay Rodgers (Westmont, NJ/Haddon Township) was 18th in 27:34, followed by junior Brad Schepise (Milltown, NJ/Spotswood) (20th, 27:37), and senior Alex Wright (Stockholm, NJ/Wallkill Valley) (21st, 27:38). While not figuring in the team scoring, sophomore Chris Harvey (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) ran a personal-best 8K time of 28:01 as Felician's No. 6 man.
The Golden Falcons were 32 points behind first-place Ramapo College. However, in their last competition before the October 25 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships, also slated for Belmont Plateau, they out-pointed six other CACC schools. Senior Travis Stewart of Rutgers University-Camden was the individual champion (26:20).
