4/13/09 SOFTBALL - Broecker Pitches Softball To Game 1 Win Over Wildcats

LODI, N.J. – Senior Nicole Broecker (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) pitched a four-hitter as Felician College defeated visiting Wilmington (Del.) University, 2-1, in Game 1 of the teams’ Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader on Monday afternoon at Kennedy Park. The win was the 200th in the history of the Felician program. The Golden Falcons settled for a split after dropping Game 2, 6-0, in eight innings.

Felician (7-24, 6-10) took an early lead in the opener on a two-out, run-scoring single by freshman Grace Keller (Hoboken, NJ/Holy Family Academy) in the second inning. Broecker had a one-hit shutout after five innings, then received an important insurance run on a Lauren DeGrushe (Guttenberg, NJ/High Tech-North Bergen) solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. -- Felician College lost both ends of its non-conference softball doubleheader to host New York Institute of Technology, 8-3 and 4-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the NYIT Softball Complex. 4/7/09 SOFTBALL - Felician Completes Sweep Behind Hughes, DeGrushe

NYACK, N.Y. – Backed by two home runs from teammate Lauren DeGrushe (Guttenberg, NJ), Felician College junior pitcher Kelly Hughes (Toms River, NJ) tossed an eight-inning four-hitter to defeat host Nyack College, 4-1, in Game 2 of the teams’ Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Nyack Middle School. Felician also won the day’s first game, 9-3. Junior Nicole Degenhardt (Secaucus, NJ) had five hits in the twinbill.

The nightcap was a pitchers’ duel between Hughes and Nyack right-hander Lauren Merkley (Kinnelon, NJ). DeGrushe’s solo homer to left field in the top of the fourth inning was the first hit of the game for either team. Hughes carried a two-hit shutout and the 1-0 advantage into the bottom of the seventh inning, but two Warrior singles put runners on first and third with one out. Following a strikeout, Victoria Leonard (Newington, CT) reached on an error, allowing Christina Braziel (Magnolia, TX) to score the tying run.
