4/26/10 GOLF - Peters, Felician Conclude Season With Victory, Records

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. -- Senior Joe Peters (Barnegat, NJ) and the Felician College golf team enjoyed a record-setting day on Monday afternoon, earning the program's first invitational tournament championship when the Golden Falcons captured the four-team Tom Pecora Collegiate Invite, hosted by Adelphi University at the Cherry Valley Club.

In his final collegiate meet, Peters became the first Felician player in the five-year history of the program to break par, shooting 70 on the par-72 course in the second-round of the 36-hole event. Peters also broke the individual 36-hole school record with a 77-70-147, which was good enough to win the event by one stroke over Matthew Demeo of host Adelphi. Teammate Joe Leardo (Belleville, NJ) held both previous school records, with 72 (twice) and 149.

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College junior Joe Leardo (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) has been selected to participate in the 2010 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Atlantic/East Regional Tournament, the NCAA D-II Men’s Golf Committee announced on Friday. Leardo is the first regional qualifier in the five-year history of the Felician golf program.

The NCAA Committee selects 10 teams from each region to participate in the regional championship. Four individuals from each of the non-selected teams are also chosen. Leardo was one of the four individual selections from the East Region.
