TORRES MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Felician College baseball team opened its 2009 season on Friday by splitting a pair of games during Day 1 of the Northeast Challenge at the Ripken Experience complex. Felician banged out 19 hits in a 24-8 non-league victory over Queens (N.Y.) College in its morning game, but followed with a 13-6 loss to Mercy College.
In the opening game, the Golden Falcons trailed, 6-4, after six innings before scoring seven unearned runs in the top of the seventh. Felician loaded the bases on an error, hit batsman, and single. One out later, pinch-hitter James Simpson (Biscayne Park, FL) drew a walk. Mike Libretta's (Staten Island, NY) fielder's choice grounder drove in the tying run, and the Golden Falcons took the lead on a throwing error. A two-run single by Alex Del Valle (Miami, FL) and an RBI hit from Marcos Torres (Miami, FL) capped the rally. |
