RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College graduate Marcos Torres (Miami, FL/South Miami) has signed a free-agent professional baseball contract with the Tampa Bay Rays. Torres has reported to the Rays’ affiliate in the Rookie Gulf Coast League in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Torres is Felician’s all-time leader in base hits, amassing 214 from 2007-10. He is a three-time all-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference catcher, and earned all-region honors as a junior. A career .331 hitter in college, he earned his BA in marketing/management last month. |

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Three Felician College players have been voted onto the 2010 New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Division II/III all-state teams, which the NJCBA released today. Junior pitcher Joel Sanchez (Hialeah, FL/Monsignor Pace) made the First Team, senior Phil Messerian (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) was chosen for the second team as a utility player, and senior relief pitcher John Calise (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter’s Boys) was a Third Team selection. All 17 head coaches of the non-Division I four-year baseball programs in the state were eligible to vote. |

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College senior Phil Messerian (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) has been named to the 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II Baseball All-East Region Second Team, according to balloting released today. All sports information directors in the region were eligible to vote.
Messerian, a pitcher/outfielder, transferred to Felician for the 2010 season after three years at Nyack College. He becomes the sixth Golden Falcon to be named all-region since Felician became an NCAA program in 2003. He was a honorable-mention All-American at Nyack in 2009. |
