Former professional and Olympic pitcher Silvio Censale was named Felician's pitching coach in January 2008.
A 10th-round draft choice of the Philadelphia Phillies in 1993, Censale played six years in the Phillies’ minor-league system, including the last three for Class AA Reading. In 95 games, he was 33-27 with a save and a 4.48 earned-run average. After being released, the left-hander played professionally in Italy, and was named Pitcher of the Year in 2000. He pitched for the Italian national team in 2003, sandwiched by stints in American independent leagues.
Following a four-time all-state career at Paramus Catholic High School, Censale was selected in the fourth round of the 1990 amateur draft by the Minnesota Twins. He instead accepted a scholarship to the University of Miami, where he went 13-4 over three seasons and participated in the 1992 College World Series. That summer, he played for Puerto Rico in the Olympic Games in Barcelona.
Censale is the founder and head instructor of BB Underground, a pitcher training program. He is also the pitching coordinator for the AAU New Jersey Mariners and a former pitching coach at Ramapo High. He has released an instructional DVD, “Active Pitcher’s Approach.”
Censale is a native of Lodi, where he still resides. |
