3/10/10 SOFTBALL - DeGrushe Sets Home Run Record, Softball Wins Pair

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – Junior Lauren DeGrushe (Guttenberg, NJ) became the Felician College softball program’s all-time home run leader during the Golden Falcons’ 6-4 non-conference victory over Mercy College on Wednesday morning during the Cocoa Expo at Chain of Lakes Park. Later on Wednesday, Felician defeated Finlandia University, 14-0. DeGrushe was 4 for 5 with four RBI on the day.

Felician (4-2) led Mercy, 4-2, in the bottom of the fifth inning when DeGrushe led off with a homer. It was her first of the season and the 15th of her career, breaking her tie with Brittany Steiner (2005-06) for the Golden Falcons’ career record. Nicole Degenhardt (Secaucus, NJ) followed with another solo shot to complete Felician’s scoring for the game.

3/9/10 MEN'S BASKETBALL - Young Selected CACC Student-Athlete Of The Month

NEW HAVEN, Conn.Devon Young of Felician College has claimed the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) February Student-Athlete of the Month award, according to an announcement made by Commissioner Dan Mara. Young is a junior guard/forward on the Golden Falcon men’s basketball team.

The CACC Student-Athlete of the Month Award is in its first year of existence. It is designed to honor a conference athlete active in that month who displays excellence in athletics, academics, and citizenship. Young is the award's sixth recipient, second from Felician, and the first-ever male winner.

3/9/10 BASEBALL - Felician Sweeps First CACC Baseball Weekly Awards

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College swept the first set of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference weekly baseball awards handed out for the 2010 season. Junior Mickey Zudonyi (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) was named the Player of the Week, senior Phil Messerian (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) the Pitcher of the Week, and freshman Joe Petosa (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) the Rookie of the Week, the CACC announced late Monday.

3/8/10 SOFTBALL - Golden Falcons Salvage Split In Florida

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – The Felician College softball team defeated Upper Iowa University, 7-2, in its afternoon game during the Cocoa Expo on Monday at Chain of Lakes Park. On Monday morning, Felician lost to Concord University, 3-2. Freshman Justine Mateo (Jersey City, NJ) combined for three hits, three runs scored, three runs batted in and four stolen bases in the two games.

The Golden Falcons (2-2) had lost to Upper Iowa in their season opener on Sunday. A day later, Felician broke a 1-1 tie with a five run fourth inning. Lauren DeGrushe (Guttenberg, NJ) drove in the go-ahead run with a fielder’s choice and Samantha Ortiz (Brooklyn, NY) added a sacrifice fly. After an error extended the inning, Mateo capped the rally with a three-run triple.
